| The Scanmar 31 is a sloop built in
Sweden from 1984 until the late 1980s. Approximately 100 were
built; few if any were exported to the U.S. The
Scanmar 31 was introduced in the fall of 1984 and was
manufactured by the Börjesson Brothers in Bjästa
until the end of the1980s.
The rig is a 7/8 fractional rig with
keel-stepped mast and swept-back spreaders. The cockpit is
roomy and features tiller steering.
The Scanmar 31A replaced the
31 in 1985. The
difference between the two models is the interior arrangement: the
31A has a real aft cabin with a folding door between the aft cabin and
salon,
and two fixed ports set into the hull. The 31 has instead a wide quarterberth which is accessed
aft of the galley. Also, the 31A has two straight settees in the
salon, whereas the 31 has a L-shaped settee to port opposite a
straight settee to starboard.
Interior
Immediately to port there is an L-shaped galley
with LPG stove and oven, an icebox and a stainless steel sink;
aft of the galley is the entrance to the aft cabin or
quarterberth. To starboard of the stairs is the head with a wet
locker; the salon consists of two straight settees in the 31A
with the port-side one shorter at 1.9 m. In the 31, the
salon features an L-shaped settee to port and a straight settee
to starboard. Forward of the head is the nav
table.
The salon and forecabin are separated by a door; the
forward cabin has two berths. The woodwork is lacquered
mahogany.
